The Shoot...

I had the immense pleasure of having an intern from Virginia Wesleyan this summer.  Her name is Allison, and she's pretty much the best thing since sliced bread.  As her supervisor, I had to come up with a "long term" project for her to work on throughout her internship and complete shortly before her internship ended and I thought that a styled shoot would be the perfect opportunity for her to practice the creative and administrative aspects of wedding planning.  While we worked together to execute the shoot and pull together the vendors, I gave Allison the responsibility of coming up with the color scheme, theme and mood board.  She chose dusty purples as the primary colors and our theme was 'romantic rustic elegance.'  We were so thrilled and lucky to work with such an amazingly talented team of vendors at the most beautiful venue!  Hear more about them and see the shoot come together below!

Invitation Suite hand drawn

The Invitation Suite...

Jordan of She Design Co. designed these GORGEOUS invitations. I secretly was hoping she would want to do a hand-drawing of the venue for the invitation but wanted her to have creative license so we sent her the mood board and pictures of the venue and told her to be creative and do whatever she wanted for them.  We were thrilled when she told us she would be doing a hand-drawing of the beautiful Flyway Lodge on the invitation and even more thrilled when we receive the final product in the mail!   Could they be any prettier?  She also did all hand-lettered items that you see in this shoot. I'm so proud of how this former EBJ bride turned industry peer is killing it with her business!

The Flowers...

Viktoriya of The Hanging Gardens VB did the flowers for the shoot, including the flower crown.  The texture and variety in her pieces was like nothing I've ever seen before.  So absolutely stunning!

The Flyway Lodge Knotts Island

The Venue...

The Flyway Lodge on Knott's Island is a new venue set up open this fall.  It's full of the old elegance and historical details that make my heart flutter!  We were so inspired by the beautiful setting!

Lolly's Creamery & Soup Co.

The Dessert...

Lolly's Creamery and Soup Co. ice cream of course!  And not just because I'm married to the man behind the brand!  I love a non-traditional dessert for a wedding day - especially when it's supporting a local small business!  We even stuck to our "dusty purples" color palette by choosing their famous black raspberry flavor!

The Hair & Makeup...

Sydney Balmer was our makeup artist for this shoot and our model said she had the funnest time with her while she was doing her makeup.  Isn't that exactly the kind of person you want doing your makeup on your wedding day?  Someone who feels like a friend that you can laugh with?  Tori Nicola was our hair artist and flawlessly executed the messy fishtail braid that Allison had envisioned!

Vintage Rentals

The Vintage Rentals...

We were so grateful to have Mad Hatter Vintage rentals partner with us on this shoot by providing the farmhouse sweetheart table and bench!  Although if you peruse their inventory you may find that you have just as hard of a time choosing a favorite as we did!

The Photographer...

We were beyond ecstatic that Jessica Ryan Photography joined us for this shoot. I've been dying to work with her on a wedding or shoot and we felt like her aesthetic would fit this shoot perfectly.  Of course, she was a joy to work with just like we knew she would be.

See how it all came together below!
